Phoenix

A desert, urban city filled with unique culture and scenic landscapes.

Welcome to Phoenix

Known by locals and tourists alike for its arid climate and picturesque skies, Phoenix is a city of exploration and adventure. It is the fifth most populated city in the United States, which is no surprise since the weather stays in the seventies year-round. Due to the gorgeous landscape and temperatures, the greater Phoenix area is home to over 150 golf clubs and is one of the top places in the country for golf. And for other sports fans, Phoenix has a team in all four major sports leagues.

Phoenix is also highly cultured. It has museums for every interest, hobby, and style. From Botanical gardens to art and science museums, residents here never grow tired of learning about the city's culture. There is also a rich history in the town, with 22 American Indian tribes still residing in the state of Arizona.

What to Love

  • Over 85% of the day is sunny, making this city one of the brightest and warmest in the country, giving its name “Valley of the Sun.”

Local Lifestyle

While most residents love Phoenix due to its incredible culture, many also appreciate the vast array of outdoor scenery and activities to enjoy. There are six gorgeous lakes within a 75-minute commute from any part of the city, resulting in dozens of trails, beaches, and great areas for swimming and boating. Hiking is also a popular pastime for all ages in the surrounding mountains. Because winters are so mild, almost any time of the year is ideal for exploring the outdoors.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Phoenix is certainly not lacking in local places for great food. Chris Bianco founded Pizzeria Bianco nearly 35 years ago and is now considered a driving force in the artisanal pizza movement. Pizzeria Bianco started here and is spreading to other cities, offering nationwide shipping on their famous woodfired pizzas. Another highly ranked and rated restaurant is Elements, located right on top of Camelback Mountain. The scenic views here are almost as lovely as the food offered; gourmet dishes of Asian-American fusion with a unique twist.

For a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain offers dozens of services created to restore balance and put your body and mind at peace. With a combination of indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, you will leave feeling completely soothed and relaxed while having also enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the mountains.

Phoenix also comes through in the shopping department. Each city area has its flair for unique stores and local shops. For some of Arizona’s best handmade and local goods, Uptown Plaza in Central Phoenix is the perfect shopping center to peruse boutiques and enjoy local restaurants. The Outlets at Anthem is also a great place for some designer brand outlet shopping, with more than 30 retail stores at this outdoor shopping center.

Things To Do

The Heard Museum, one of the largest of Phoenix’s historical museums, focuses on advancing American Indian art and teaching about the culture of the people. Several other museums and local artists are also surrounding Phoenix’s art district. Many theater fans also frequently visit the Phoenix Symphony Hall for concerts, opera, and dances. As well as historical and art museums, there are several notable architectural achievements in Phoenix as well. Taliesin West, built-in 1937 by Frank Lloyd Wright, is one of the state's most well-known and admired pieces of architecture in the state.

Besides golfing, several other sports and activities occur annually around the city. Phoenix Raceway hosts two races each year for the famous NASCAR racing. For all-age entertainment, the Phoenix Zoo is the largest privately-owned zoo in the country! It also is highly focused on conservation efforts, even breeding and reintroducing endangered species back into the wild for population growth. With several parks and preserves around Phoenix, there are many ways to learn about local plant and animal species while also enjoying the natural landscape.

Schools

Phoenix has several school districts within its 500 square miles. Deer Valley Unified School District serves the northwest area of Maricopa County.
